As a pioneer in establishing effective methods to battle the use of illegal child labor, Obeetee maintains the highest standards of workplace conditions and accountability. Our weavers and supporting manufacturers are amongst the best paid in the industry and receive superior benefits, which results in exceptionally high employee retention rates at all levels of work. Through a network of 24 satellite depots, Obeetee has over 75 fulltime executives and supervisors whose sole purpose is to inspect our 10,000 looms and tufting frames over an area of nearly 60,000 square miles. Every hand knotted loom is inspected at least once every 15 days and tufted loom is inspected twice a week with additional surprise inspections from the head office at least once every 60 days. From these inspections, the company maintains detailed information on each and every weaver and their families to ensure that only those approved by OBEETEE are working on our products. This inspection system, which Obeetee developed during the 1980’s, along with other product quality controls, is random, frequent, and thoroughly documented. Each OBEETEE carpet has a control number established before it is even made so that a detailed history of the carpet can be easily accessed and audited for completeness and accuracy, even after the carpet is sold to the final consumer. For more than a decade, and through the production of more than 500,000 carpets, not one instance of illegal child labor has ever been discovered. It is this system of inspection that ensures a policy of zero tolerance and OBEETEE strongly encourages our industry peers to implement these same procedures in the production of their own products.

His skills and enthusiasm belie his age

Sitting outside his small house at Nawalpur, Bhonu proudly talks about how his isn’t ready to retire yet: “I have to take care of my business, you see. I have always earned my living and there’s no reason for me to stop now.”

A great-grandfather, Bhonu still remembers how he was taught the intricacies of carpet-making by his father. “I remember my father would hit me when I made mistakes. But you can’t do it with children today – I taught my sons about the craft with a lot of patience,” he says. His five sons and one grandson are also involved in the craft and are commissioned work by OBEETEE.

The family has been associated with the company for three generations and Bhonu expresses his gratitude for the work and support the company has given him in all these years. Posing happily for pictures, Bhonu proudly talks about how he has interacted with several customers from western countries and been interviewed for documentary "cinema", he giggles. He loves to work with bright colors and traditional motifs of Persian carpets. His wife and daughters-in-law take care of home and hearth as well as the cows and buffaloes that the family owns. “Do come next time and I’ll ask them to make you fresh pedas (sweets made of milk). They’re my favorite, too,” says Bhonu, showing the typical spirit of hospitality of the people here. Witnessing the knotted fingers lovingly create carpets is a bonus.

Hand knotted with the finest Afghan wool, these rugs create ambience of luxury and comfort at the cutting edge of design.

Resonating with the warmth and passion of the Mediterranean, the Barcelona Collection celebrates old Spanish rugs with their fiery colours and silken sheen. Old motifs have been deconstructed to impart a touch of modern elegance to these rugs.

An amazing symphony of color, texture and composition… Manufactured in Nepal, these 100-knot silk and wool Tibetan carpets are a brilliant mosaic of colors, combined to reveal the vestiges of the underlying patterns.

The Bold medallions borrowed from old textile motifs provide an interesting contrast to the subdued colour palette in this collection. A special finishing technique imparts a stylishly worn, textile-like feel to these rugs.

The Epoch collection embracing all aspect of current color trends from cool grays with citrus accents to bold golds, fuchsias and purples. The design motifs have been fractured through the use of generous color variation giving an antique yet an unexpected contemporary twist to the collection.
